Early Pa Tin Star Quilting Patterns
Four tin quilting stars all found together .. tin stars were used as a template for making designs and are also called quilting patterns by traditional quilters in Eastern Pennsylvania ~ Their primary use was for tufted work which is seen on rugs ~ bedcovers ~ and pillow tops.
The tufted yarn motif is made by stitching varied colored yarn back and forth over the tin form. When the stitching is completed the yarn is clipped and the form is removed.
Each star measures across ~ 4 ¼” ~ 3 ½” ~ 2 7/8” ~ 2 3/8”
